SVP Market Lead and Commercial Lender

Job Opportunity

The SVP Market Lead drives commercial loan and deposit growth within an assigned market while serving as a producing commercial lender. This role combines hands‑on business development and relationship management with leadership accountability for market performance, lender development, and branch engagement. 

Working closely with branch leadership and cross-functional partners, the Market Lead ensures a coordinated, relationship-driven approach to serving local businesses while building visibility, trust, and long-term growth in the market.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Production & Relationship Management 
  • Originate, underwrite, and manage a portfolio of commercial loan and deposit relationships aligned with bank strategy and credit culture 
  • Build and maintain relationships with business clients, centers of influence, and community partners  
  • Identify opportunities to deepen relationships across lending, deposits, and cash management  
  • Serve as a senior relationship manager on complex or high-profile credits 
Market Growth & Community Presence 
  • Lead business development efforts for the assigned branch market, aligning commercial lending strategies with local market opportunities. 
  • Build BankCherokee’s visibility through community involvement, networking, and local leadership 
  • Partner with branch leadership to drive coordinated market initiatives, campaigns, and calling efforts 
  • Drive balanced growth across loans, deposits, and client relationships 
  • Monitor performance and adjust strategies to achieve market goals 
Leadership & Lender Development 
  • Laying the foundation to build and lead a commercial banking team over time. 
  • Directly manage and coach one or more commercial lenders, supporting skill development, production success, and portfolio quality 
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable team environment 
  • Partner with senior leadership on performance and talent development  
Branch & Cross-Functional Collaboration 
  • Partner with branch teams to drive referrals and coordinated client service  
  • Ensure alignment between commercial, community banking, and cash management efforts  
  • Serve as a key point of coordination for commercial activity across assigned locations 
Credit, Risk & Portfolio Oversight 
  • Structure and underwrite complex commercial credits in alignment with bank policy 
  • Monitor portfolio performance and identify emerging risks 
  • Support credit discussions, pipeline management, and compliance expectations  
Operational Excellence & Compliance 
  • Ensure lending and business development activities comply with regulatory requirements, loan policy, and internal procedures 
  • Maintain accurate reporting related to production, pipeline activity, and market performance 
  • Advocate for process improvements that enhance efficiency, risk management, and client experience 

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking an experienced commercial banking professional who enjoys building relationships, creating a growth culture, and leading others while maintaining a strong personal portfolio. Ideal candidates may have: 

  • A bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or related field (advanced degree preferred) 
  • 8–10+ years of progressive commercial lending experience, ideally in a community bank 
  • Demonstrated success in business development and relationship management 
  • Experience leading or mentoring other lenders 
  • Strong credit expertise, including complex deal structuring and portfolio management 
  • Ability to balance production, leadership, and market development responsibilities 
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and decision-making skills

  • experience—including base pay from $180,000 to $200,000 plus incentives.
